Food Banks and Community Fridges

Food Banks and Community Fridges are both there to help support people with getting food for free. However, they are different in the way that they are run and how you might gain access to them.

Food Banks

To access Food Banks you need to have a referral. For this you can ask your GP, housing association or a social worker. Citizen’s advice, school or a charity may also be able to refer you.

Community Fridges

Communities Fridges are open to everybody and are totally free. All you need to do is turn up with a carrier bag/backpack and you can take what you need. They have specific opening times, and many will not allow people to queue before the opening time.
